| Michael M. Marick Elected Founding Fellow, American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel |
| (Chicago, January 14, 2013)... Michael M. Marick, a partner with the Chicago-based law firm of Meckler Bulger Tilson Marick & Pearson LLP, has been elected a Founding Fellow of the newly formed American College of Coverage and Extracontractual Counsel (ACCEC).
Established in 2012, the ACCEC brings together preeminent coverage and extracontractual lawyers, who represent the interests of both insurers and policy holders. In pursuing its mission to improve the quality of the practice of insurance law, ACCEC extends invitations for membership to a select group of recognized authorities in a wide range of legal and insurance disciplines. ACCEC endeavors to educate all sectors in insurance disputes – including the judiciary, legal and insurance professionals, and businesses – on critical topics such as best practices in policy formation and claims handling, developing trends in insurance law, and bad faith, through seminars and shared scholarship within its membership. Marick is a founding member of Meckler Bulger Tilson Marick & Pearson (MBT), a 100-attorney firm widely known for its nationwide insurance coverage and bad faith practice. For more than 30 years, he has represented insurers across the country in high exposure disputes over liability coverage at the claim stage, in trial courts, and on appeal. Marick has represented insurers in a broad range of coverage and bad faith matters, including toxic torts, environmental matters, professional liabilities and many other types of losses. “The time seemed right to bring together the finest lawyers from the United States and Canada, who represent some of the best minds practicing in a wide range of legal and insurance disputes,” said Thomas F. Segalla, of Goldberg Segalla LLP, who is the inaugural president of ACCEC. “While our goals include providing education for the bench and bar as well as the insurance industry, we believe it’s the dialogue among our diverse members that will lead to creative resolutions and improved representation for all parties in a dispute. And, with all the complex coverage questions that are already emerging in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and other recent events, we feel the mission of the College to improve the practice of insurance law is, perhaps, now more important than ever.” Marick has held various leadership roles in addition to his new position as a Fellow of ACCEC. This year, he began his new position as Chair of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Insurance Law Committee and was selected to membership in the American Law Institute. He has also been selected by his peers as one of The Best Lawyers in America and is recognized in Euromoney’s World’s Leading Insurance and Reinsurance Lawyers. A 1982 graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, Marick is a member of the school’s Board of Overseers, and has been honored with its Distinguished Service and Career Achievement Awards. He received his B.A. from Denison University in 1979. MBT is one of the nation’s leading litigation firms, with offices in Chicago, Dallas, Phoenix and San Francisco. In addition to insurance coverage litigation and counseling, the firm specializes in labor and employment litigation and counseling, commercial litigation, professional liability defense, white-collar criminal defense, environmental litigation and counseling and attorney fee disputes and litigation management.
