Matthew’s environmental law practice encompasses litigation, regulatory counseling, and due diligence. Matthew has litigated in CERCLA (Superfund) cost recovery and contribution cases, enforcement actions brought by environmental agencies for violations of air, water and waste laws, RCRA citizen suits, toxic tort cases, and permit disputes in administrative tribunals. He counsels clients on permitting regulations under the Clean Air Act (Title V, New Source Review, Prevention of Significant Deterioration, Hazardous Air Pollutants) and the Clean Water Act (NPDES, Pretreatment). Matthew has managed due diligence projects such as environmental site assessments under the EPA’s new All Appropriate Inquires Rule and the investigation and remediation of contaminated properties under state cleanup programs.

Matthew has developed unique insight by working as a hydrogeologist with a global environmental engineering and consulting firm for seven years prior to practicing law. His consulting experience included planning and implementing investigations of contaminated properties, evaluating the nature and extent of environmental contamination, assessing the environmental and health risks of contamination, and identifying cost-effective remedies.
